I am 26 years old, working on getting my life together (because let’s be real here, adulting is extremely hard), and am about to be an aunt for the first time! Words can’t explain my excitement!
The day after my nephew was born, my life turned upside down in a matter of moments. My baby sister had relapsed into her drug addiction, and the baby was born addicted. My heart broke when I heard the news. Without a second thought, I informed the nurse station that I wanted to speak to whomever was handling the situation, because I was volunteering to take that sweet baby boy home with me while my sister got herself straight.
I went from being a brand new aunt to a becoming a brand new mother instantly. It has been a long, difficult journey. This is my story about being a mother, caring for a child, and being a loved one of an addict. Thanks for joining me on my journey!
